Here is how I review the audio files:
first: you need to have good head phones. This is a must. I have a coupleof pairs that use noise reduction. I find that that actually filters out some of the sound I am listening for. do not use the Ear bud style of head phones. they let too much of the outside noise in.
second: you need to be in a quiet area with no ditractions to review. That means no reading, no watching tv or if possible try not to eat or drink while reviewing files. Since I break my files down to sections of about 15 minutes, I should be able to sit still.
third: I take notes of what is happening, I also pause the file and often times I will loop or play the section over and over again.
fourth: If I find something unusual, I mark down the time of the file. I finish the whole section, then I go back to the area. I'll take the section in question and copy it into a new file. I'll do all my work on the file seperately. Adobe Audition has a lot of tools to enhance the file and I'll use those. Usually I end up trying to increase the volume or using the built in equalizer to clean up the file.
finally, I'll pass the results to someone else and ask them what hear. I do not tell them what I have heard until they tell me what they have heard, I try to reduce poisoning the other persons thoughts.
