From www.rottentomatoes.comApril 05, 2006 Jackson Joins Cusack in King's Haunted "1408" With a few new Stephen King adaptations on the way (including Desperation and Cell), Dimension is readying 1408, a ghost story about a professional "debunker" who has to deal with a seriously haunted hotel room. The flick's about to begin production early this summer, and joining lead actor John Cusack in the project is everyone's favorite character actor: Sam L. Jackson! According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Samuel L. Jackson has come aboard 1408, Dimension Films' adaptation of a Stephen King short story being directed by Mikael Hafstrom. Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing. 1408 is the tale of a debunker of paranormal occurrences (John Cusack) who encounters real terror when he checks into the notorious Room 1408 at the Dolphin Hotel. Jackson plays the manager of the hotel. The short story originally appeared in King's audio book Blood and Smoke and was later included as one of 14 short stories in the author's Everything's Eventual, which was published in 2002. Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski (The People vs. Larry Flynt) are rewriting the screenplay, which originally was written by Matt Greenberg."

Eric and I watched this on Saturday night. Quite interesting. Jumped at a couple of parts, but it was more suspenseful than anything. Remind me to stay away from any rooms with that number. Thanks!

It was obviously written by someone who has no concept about how hauntings of any facet work. But it was entertaining to watch none-the-less.

The story was much, much better. I think that Samuel L Jackson was mis-cast in his role.
As far as hauntings go, King never says that the room is haunted. In fact, he never writes what exactly is in the room. Only that it's evil and needs to feed.

Geez, Michelle. If I hadn't been ghost hunting with you before, I'd be wondering why you're here.

I know, I ask myself the same thing all the time. I'm afraid of scary movies, but yet I go into houses where ghosts are and chase them around. The only place I've actually wanted to run out of was the M.C. in Bloom. lol

LOL.
I get into good horror flicks. Emmerse myself right in it. I can almost feel the pain of the poor sap getting the hatchet in the head. Kelly always teases me about jumping during the movie, and I think to myself... what a waste to watch a good horror and not really enjoy it, you know?
1408 had its moments, and I do know what you're saying wrath186. It wasn't so much a haunted room as it was a hungry room. It's just in my personnal opinion, I don't think he should have tossed in a ghost hunter ... a piss-poor one at that... to investigate this room. At the very least, he should have thrown in a small team of investigators - something akin to the Poltergeist movie situation. But it would have been better off with just some Realist building inspector going in.
