When I was growing up through school, I lived in a house that was built by my grandfather. He had passed on when I was young.
This one time when I was about 12 or 13 years old, I was downstairs in the family room. There was a light on the ceiling with a string to turn it on... that was pretty much the way that light has always been turned on. The string jumped this one time when I was down there alone. It really freaked me out. I ran upstairs. In hind sight I figured that perhaps the pull-string simply got its mechanics caught up slightly and worked itself loose, causing a sudden jump in the string.
I didn't bother telling anyone else about it.
When I was back home last month, I was at a restaurant with my family, and my sister talked about how she thought the old house was haunted. Seems she noticed that string in the basement pull and turn itself on with no one around but her.
How strange to think that our basement might have had a ghost after all. I always felt pretty creeped out in the basement. I had some pretty wicked nightmares about it down there, always felt like someone was watching me too.
I was tempted to go to the guy who lives there now and ask him if he had any similar experiences.

Wow!!! That is freaky... But I dont know if I would be able to ask the person living there now about that, I would be too scared to start something...

You could always go there - strike up a conversation about how you grew up there and miss the old place - and then strategically slip "leading" comments into the conversation to see if the new guys say anything. If nothing else - nothing ventured, nothing gained

Maybe you're right, Lynda. Perhaps next time I'm in Michigan.
