My most memorable experience working at The Scranton Cultural Center at The Masonic Temple in downtown Scranton was being alone on the 4th floor when I was all by myself I was emptying out bus tubs by the window in the lobby area and I had my name called out to me in a whispering tone. No one was up there with me and I would’ve definitely heard the elevator and footsteps from the stairs would echo really loud.
My brother was on the stage looking out into the mezzanine section of the theatre while the fire walls were closing. I was climbing the ladder to the 4th floor and was halfway up when my brother called for me to come down and look at what he was seeing. It was a shadowy figure sitting in one of the seats near the top. We had just been up there about 5 minutes before he saw this figure and there was only 4 people in the whole building: me, my brother, the box office lady, and a patron buying tickets.
Another coworker heard someone yell out “HEY!” to him after shutting off the lights on the 3rd floor while doing his routine of closing down the building. He also saw a mason standing by a water cooler in the main lobby on the first floor another night closing down the building. My coworker was shutting off the last of the lights and as he came out of the closet with the breaker box in it he saw the man dressed in a mason’s suit standing there. He said hello to the mason and then the mason started to disappear in front of him. He also stated that once while cleaning the stage he looked up at the box seats on the left hand side of the theater if you’re facing the stage from the seats and saw a girl looking at him. After about 2 minutes she disappeared. Another coworker was with a band in the ballroom after a performance around 2 in the morning one night and were looking out into the main lobby and saw a black “thing” streaking across in the air.
The lady who worked in the box-office once had to go back into the building one night around midnight to get something she had forgotten to take home and while she was in there, she was at the back of the theater looking out into the ballroom because the firewalls had been left up, and she saw a woman dressed in white walking around the balcony of the ballroom.
I have also experienced hearing faint conversations in the background but not being able to make out what was being said especially in the back of the theater. I would always hear doors opening and closing in the distance. I was never really sure where they were coming from. Loud bangs would also be heard.
There are also many other experiences that have gone on here. The building has an eerie feeling about it in a lot of places especially if you are alone.
